Teaching practice is an exercise designed to sharpen the skill of the student teachers in anticipation of their future engagement.
It exposes the student teachers to the challenges inherent in the teaching career as professional teachers. These skills are found at the beginning of the lesson, induction skill, skill of lesson delivery, skill of closure, classroom management and organisation, appropriate use of instructiinal materials, planning and preparation of lesson responsibilities, and to be employing democratic strategies.
Just as the implies “teaching practices”, it prepares the student teachers to have indept knowledge of what the are likely to face when being employed as qualified and professional teachers.
Furthermore, teaching practice enhances the efficiency in the qualities aspect of a good teacher such as; tolerance, intellectual and technical competence, playfulness, generosity, impartiality and possession of friendliness attitude instead of accepting to bear a ‘weak’ appellation simply because of being ignorant in the field of practice.
As teaching profession is amedium of self development as well as intellectual advancement, so does teaching practice. Teaching practice is designed to sharpen the requesite skills and professional outlookof the student teachers. Also as no improvement without practice, so is the essential of role of teaching practice in the school curriculum of studies.
