Teacher education is the training of people to become professional teachers and this is normally done through the formal approach which is school. The role of the teachers is to impact knowledge to the learners so as to enable them to be useful in the future.
In looking at the implementation of free and compulsory education in Akwa Ibom State, there are matters arising. First, government should be commended for introducing free education in the state.
While we expect government to take the welfare of the teachers seriously in prompt payment of salaries and allowances, teachers are expected to live up to the expectation in ensuring that they are dedicated to service delivery so that the essence of the free education would not be defeated.
Teachers should report to school on time and ensure that high moral values and discipline are maintained.
The should remember that what the pupils become tomorrow is a function of how they were brought up in the school.
